International organisations/current affairs

Press releases, speeches, reports, conference minutes, websites etc. for, amongst others, the European Commission and Parliament, the United Nations, the World Health Organisation, the World Wildlife Fund, several international NGOs and several embassies. A high level of general knowledge, a keen interest in current affairs and an ability to adhere to specific style guides are amongst my main assets in this field. My latest large project was a chapter of the UNDP’s Human Development Report 2010 and the Report’s press pack.

Creative translation/transcreation

Websites, promotional brochures, adverts, marketing material, tourism websites, guidebooks etc. As a translator, I enjoy nothing more than having to be creative in order to make the copy work just as well in French as it does in English. this is where my in-depth understanding of both cultures and linguistic know-how come into play.

Translation for the media/audiovisual translation

Press releases, synopses, film scripts, subtitles, press articles, etc. Over the years, I have translated this sort of material for major feature films (DVD commentaries, subtitles, press releases) and corporate videos (voice-over scripts). I have attended a number of workshops and seminars on audiovisual translation and have a keen understanding of the specific requirements in this field.

Tourism

Tourism websites and visitor guides are a particular favourite of mine. I have translated guidebooks to major UK attractions, audio-guides to the Scottish Parliament, Stockholm and Paris, and websites for national tourism organisations. I am particularly  knowledgeable on South-Eastern and South-Western France, Paris, London, Northern England and Scotland.

Market research

Questionnaires, verbatims, guidelines and workshops. I have been involved in a large number of market research projects, translating questionnaires and verbatims in fields varying from medical or agricultural equipment to financial services and consumer habits.

Technical translation

User manuals, websites, data sheets, software etc. Over the years, I have acquired specific expertise, through large projects in collaboration with French experts, in the following fields: health and safety, REACH, marine pains and software localisation, amongst others.
